EcoReefs Container Kits

EcoReefs modules are shipped to the port nearest your location in standard 20' or 40' shipping containers. The prefabricated ceramic components are flat-packed in boxes for easy handling, and can be readily transported in small boats or trucks. Epoxy and anchors are similarly boxed and shipped on pallets by sea or air. On site, the modules are quickly and easily assembled using simple hand tools.

Fast and Easy Module Assembly

Assembling EcoReefs modules is fast and easy. Each module is built from two hub pieces and six branch pieces. Assembly takes less than five minutes.

What you need: 2 hubs, 6 branches, 2 cable tie clamps, epoxy, epoxy gun and mixing nozzle.

Assembly sequence:
1) Mate two hubs as shown, and align the slots.
2) Insert six branch pieces, using the keyways to align the branch.
3) Clamp the module tightly using two cable ties passed around the circumference of the module; one cable tie above the middle branch and one cable tie below the middle branch. The module can now be moved as needed using the hubs as lifting handles. © 2004 Michael D. Moore

Epoxy sequence:
1) Inject epoxy in the hub edge joints, on both sides of each branch.
2) Inject epoxy in the hub nose joints.
3) Inject epoxy in the hub mating joints, at a spot centered between the branches.
4) Immediately turn module over (before epoxy sets) and repeat steps 1-2.
5) Allow module to sit undisturbed until epoxy is hard to the touch -- approx. 2 hours.
6) Remove the cable ties. That's it, you're done! © 2004 Michael D. Moore

Anchoring Options

EcoReefs modules can be anchored as needed. We offer a selection of anchors that cover a range of substrate types and sediment depths, and we will work with you to determine which anchor type will best meet your installation requirements.

Plastic toggle anchor suitable for unconsolidated reef sediments. Installed using a drive rod and a hand sledge. The module is tethered to the stainless steel cable, and the buried toggle anchor pivots in the subsurface, securing the module.

Non-corroding fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) anchor rod suitable for consolidated reef substrates. Installed by cementing the base of the rod into a pre-drilled hole. The module is mounted on the rod, and secured in place using plastic lock nuts.
