EcoReefs installations are well-suited for Marine Protected Areas, especially for sites where live coral cover has been completely destroyed by blast fishing or other destructive uses.  

EcoReefs installations can cost-effectively restore large physically-damaged areas that have shown no natural recovery in recent decades.  

Some of our most established installations (since 2003) are sites in marine parks that were large expanses of loose coral rubble produced by chronic blast fishing. This is an extremely hostile environment for young corals, since they are easily rolled and killed by tidal currents.  

EcoReefs installations have successfully stabilized these sites and catalyzed new coral reef growth from both coral recruits and coral transplants.

In areas where MPA revenues depend on dive tourism, EcoReefs installations can repair reef damage and bring additional dive sites into service.  

EcoReefs projects can also serve as a focal point for strengthening community-based management initiatives.
